    I have been given to understand that computer science and information technology are two degrees almost guaranteed to give one a job and a career - fast. It helps if the degree is a good grade. I realized how important it was to learn things of economic value in the first terrible months after leaving university. I am now 71 and am learning all this much too late :)

    If you worked at a major tech company you know the pain of not making deadlines ect ect ect. It's all not worth it. My Computer science degree is just paper to me that I was in debt for like 2 years paying back after school. Then I left these trash places to go and work for myself. Best thing I ever did. I make WAY more now then I did at any of these places. These people arnt the Top 1%. If you know, you know. Theirs people out there grinding, who are way more talented then the hacks who sit in the lounge and make others do there work. Just sayin.

    Souless industry, don't plan for a long stay. Millk the cow! Don't get stuck in the hamster wheel. Have an exit plan and a hard limit to stay in the industry until you're 40. The industry is souless and cutthroad. Lots of backstapping, ego filled idiots who think they are the smartest people in the room. Be like a mercenary, do the job, get paid, put yourself first. Not the company you work for. Remember: money first! Once you have acquired some wealth invest in something of your own so you can still enjoy your remaining good years how you want.

    I see a lot of people here talking about how they hate this field and their jobs. I've been in this field for some years now, starting as a simple SKID and progressing to an actual engineer in a great managerial position. The key is to work on projects and niches you enjoy. For example, when I took my first jobs, I was building websites. I hated it so much; I thought maybe programming was not really for me and that I didn't actually like it. Things changed when I switched to cybersecurity and hacking. I needed to learn even more to get into that niche, but that, I actually loved doing. I currently still do it, researching malware programs and vulnerabilities for different cloud infrastructures.

    I regret spending the past four years on activities that didn't contribute to the essential skills required for my job. Instead of honing the abilities that are directly relevant to my career, I invested time and effort into areas that, in hindsight, haven't advanced my professional growth. This period could have been better spent on targeted learning and practical experience to enhance my job performance and career prospects.

    same. when i first started college, i was going to major in Bullshitology. maybe psychology or something; as long as it wasn't hard. but when my second year of community college started; i came to my senses and got dead serious. i was studying C and assembly language; extending what BASIC programming I did when I was 12; until I discovered skateboards and guitars. I transferred to University, and did reasonably well; and got a reputation among my peers. for a while, I did epic side projects (3D graphics libraries, MIDI, audio processors, somewhat acclaimed iPad music apps, ...). I totally relearned math in my own way, and got a serious case of Tsundoku when I had my own income. Now, my daughter is getting an Aerospace Engineering degree; and runs circles around me in everything but smashing out side-project code. I am old, and I can barely keep up now. I make good impressions with a lot of knowledge; and some crazy projects to demo. But I am now blind in one eye, and have trouble just having the energy to keep up. I have embarassing large gaps, such as Acceptable Front-End. Working on Braille tools set off alarms when I was job hunting for the first time at 50 years old. Kick ass while you can; and try to pass it on.

I can tell the data set by days and how it's favored, but not precisely. Or why it keeps shifting. It makes no sense. I suspect psychometrics are at play but don't know how you but that into a language- you just said everything I need from what I can get on my end bc I am not trying to go to jail, just beat the game better in a fair way. - THANKS!

    I’ve been a dev for six years now and at this point, I hate this job so much. It’s not even about money. I find the programming industry to be soulless, and as someone who grew up in the projects, I don’t get along with 90% of the folks, I’ve worked with for one reason or another. I always tell people who asked me if they should do it or not, that they should they don’t have a passion or something that they love doing. Just because maybe if I didn’t love writing and making music, there would’ve been space in my soul for me to have a passion for this shit

    • @MartinezCodes
      @MartinezCodes 16 днів тому

      At the end of the day coding is just like any other job…I don’t have a passion for my current job but I do my job well, in fact, I actually hate my job. So at least if I end up hating coding, at least I’d be making 2 or 3x more than I currently make in 5yrs 😂

      @@MartinezCodesagreed! Recently watched a video where a software engineer felt he rly did it for the money and he made great points on why there’s still passion in it. That salary can be life changing. Everyone’s experiences are different but on the other side, I found a software engineer on tiktok who does music on the side. The money is enough but the lifestyle and opportunities just adds to it.
